Braintree’s first ever comedy festival is a five day event.

Tonights show features two shows in one.

Richard Herring

After sorting out politics (Hitler Moustache), religion (Christ on a Bike), love (What is Love, Anyway?) and penises (Talking Cock) Herring’s tenth consecutive stand-up show tackles the undiscovered country from whose bourn no traveller returns (apart from Jesus and that canoe bloke). Is death a tragedy or an excuse to have an extended lie-in? Are we snuffed out or forced to endure eternity without bodily pleasures? Death is inevitable, so let’s laugh in its face while our hearts still beat and our jaws are still attached.

James Acaster – lawn mower

Foster’s Comedy Award Best Show Nominee 2012. It’s time for some low-key stand-up from an angular young man. A whole host of topics is about to get what they’ve got coming to them. Quite frankly, it’s about high time someone gave it to them the way they’re about to get it. Here we go. ‘One of the sharpest comic minds to have emerged in recent years’ (Guardian). ‘Deliciously daft and no slouch in the surprises department’ (Evening Standard). ‘One of the best hours of straight stand-up at this year’s festival’ (Time Out).

Braintree’s first ever comedy festival is a five day event.

Tonights show features two shows in one.

Chris Martin – Passionate about the pointless

Fresh from supporting Milton Jones and Russell Kane, Chris Martin (Dave’s One Night Stand) brings his new show to Edinburgh. Ever had someone tell you how to relax? Ever been mocked for not enjoying a bath? Ever had a turf war with a pug (stupidest looking animal on the planet)? Chris uses his uniquely twisted logic to tackle these ‘earth shattering’ problems. There’s no politics; just a lot of sharp observations and silly arguments he wants you to hear. ‘One of the UK’s most promising young observationalists’ (Guardian). ‘Destined for Greatness’ (Sunday Times).

The Noise Next Door – Soundhouse

In a dark corner of town there is an underground club the likes of which the world has never seen. A place without rules, where legends live and history is made. The 2010-2012 sell-out comedy team return to Edinburgh with their astonishing new show. Unstoppably funny and uniquely talented, The Noise Next Door are well on their way to becoming comedy’s next big thing. ‘Hilarious’ **** (Telegraph). ‘Masterpiece’ ***** (ThreeWeeks). ‘World-class’ ***** (US Weekly). ‘Genius’ ***** (FringeReview.co.uk). www.thenoisenextdoor.co.uk

Braintree’s first ever comedy festival is a five day event.

Tonights show features two shows in one.

Rob Beckett
After supporting Russell Kane and Stephen K Amos on tour Rob is her with his new show, following on from his successful 2012 debut show ‘Rob Becketts Summer Holiday’. You will recognize Rob from his many appearances on TV shows such as ‘8 Out Of 10 Cats’, Edinburgh Comedy Fest Live 2012, Fresh Meat and many more. ‘A Likeable high tempo comic’ (The Guardian). ‘A very funny young man, very funny’ (www.spponfed.co.uk) ‘little short of a revelation’ (Scotsman)

Ian Smith – Anything

Ian Smith (BBC2′s Popatron, Sky’s Officially Special) is an award-winning stand-up comedian. Ian (bearded) has developed a reputation as one of the most exciting young acts on the circuit. This is his debut hour about that tricky, restrictive theme, anything. It’s a shambling show about childhood, things that have happened, frustration, embarrassment, and things that haven’t happened. Bring an extra pair of socks, the ones you’re wearing will get blown off (by the comedy). ***** (ThreeWeeks). **** (Scotsman). ‘Fantastically funny’ (Times). ‘Delightfully offbeat writing … a talent, for sure’ (Chortle.co.uk).
